Of course you can choose your own emotions, if you are trained to do so! Almost all of us are sleep-walking through life, semi awake and most of the times lead unconscious living. Basically we can categorize emotions into two: positive emotions and negative emotions. If you start cultivating positive emotions like Gratitude, Love, Compassion, Respect, Empathy and Kindness, the negative ones like anger, fear, grief, and jealousy will be drowned in the sea of positivity. Unfortunately, it is easier said than done. We are not trained to choose our emotions, as they simply "happen" to us. Instead follow the following regimentation to inculcate the positive emotions:
First Week: Start this week with Gratitude. Why Gratitude? Because it is the mother of all positive emotions like Compassion, Love, Kindness, Empathy and Respect. Cultivate Grateful Thoughts, add Gratitude in your daily conversation, and do Grateful deeds. Our tools of transaction with the Universe consist of Thoughts, Speech and Actions. So you need to sharpen all the three tools to engineer a paradigm shift. Start your day with a Gratitude Journal writing down ten things for which you are grateful!
Second Week: Compassion.
Third Week: Respect.
